CPSO Reprimands Doctors, Suspends One, Over Harassing Emails
Two Ontario doctors have been disciplined for sending “abusive” and “bullying” emails to the former president of the Ontario Medical Association...
The College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario accepted an agreed statement of facts, filed by Dr. Troy Christie “Chris” Drone and Dr. Michael Tjandrawidjaja, that addressed harassing conduct from the summer of 2016 including cyberbullying.
In recent years, in particular since the amendments to the Regulated Health Professions Act came into force in the spring of 2017 (and more recently since the Goudge Report), the CPSO has been taking a zero tolerance stance on harassment. The CPSO takes allegations of sexual harassment particularly seriously.
In his reprimand, Dr. Pierre Giroux, on behalf of the discipline panel stated, the “abusive, bullying tone and sexual connotation” of the emails has brought the profession into disrepute and undermined the public’s trust.
Doctors must be held to a very high standard, and it appears the CPSO is now willing to uphold that high standard.
