Calling All Regulated Health Professionals

Who are our clients?

Ontario has 26 regulatory Colleges that oversee 30 distinct health professions, which are governed by an umbrella law called the Regulated Health Professions Act, 1991 and various health profession Acts (i.e. Dentistry Act, 1991). The Acts establish regulatory health colleges that regulate the professions and more than 400,000 healthcare professionals in Ontario, by setting the standards for their registrants' skills, knowledge and behaviour (the healthcare professionals). These colleges operate independently under the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care. Their primary role is to protect the public, rather than serving their members. Some health professions, such as social work, do not fall under the RHPA but are regulated nonetheless.

College proceedings against regulated health professionals are very complex and can seriously impact the member’s ability to practice. They are often very stressful and time-consuming, and colleges can challenge a member’s professional integrity and ability to practice.

The lawyers at Health Law Firm assist regulated health professionals at all stages of College proceedings and litigation. By engaging a health law firm early in the process, we can help you understand your rights and duties and how to navigate College proceedings successfully.

Many of our clients run independent health clinics and practices. We provide legal support to these clients, from employment law to professional corporations and business structures to complex legal drafting and contracts.
