News update regarding class actions lawsuit in Ontario, Canada, against the Islamic Republic of Iran et al., and the downing of Ukraine International Airlines PS752
Our class-proceeding John Doe v Islamic Republic of Iran et al has now been assigned to the regional class-proceedings judge Mr. Justice B. Glustein for case management. We have scheduled an attendance before Justice Glustein on May 25, 2020. During this conference, we will discuss several issues including the intended steps to move this matter forward, service of the claim on the defendants and certification of the class of plaintiffs.
Over the past two months, our law firm has made repeated attempts to serve the defendants with the statement of claim. We have directly served the defendants at the Iranian embassy in Canberra, Australia. We have delivered copies of the claim to the Iranian embassy in England. We have also served the Ministry of Global Affairs, Government of Canada with the claim, who is obligated to serve Iran. Lastly, we have served the defendants in multiple other ways via other electronic means.
Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, the courts in Ontario are mostly closed to in-person attendance. We intend to attend on this appearance in May, whether in person or via eletronic conference.
